Brandon Wood bombs in winter ball

wildcard

I was just interested in this story due to the fact that many of us have discussed the Orioles attempting to land him. He was sent home for poor performance. Huge year at AAA again - struggled mightily in the majors and winter ball.

"Wood hit .167 for Estrellas in the Dominican winter league, with one home run and 16 strikeouts in 48 at-bats. The club sent him home after 13 games".

I've been saying for 2 years that this guy is a bust as a Major Leaguer. He's your basic PCL slugger-that's all. I'd give them Mike Costanzo for him-throw in Cormier maybe-that's about all he's worth.

Agree....a proto-typical AAAA/AAA player. Just not quite good enough. But like you, I'd still be willing to take a chance on him....in hopes that he might be a late bloomer.

I think he is far from that. I think he will be an multiple All-Star when it is all said and done.

The guy is a monster in the minors. He was better than Kendrick when they were playing together and he is a year younger. He is going to be 24 this year. I really hope AM takes a chance on Wood. He needs to go to a different organization.

He definitely needs to cut down his K% or increase his BB%. He doesn't walk enough to have a 28-32 K%. I think he can be that rare SS that can put up a really high SLG%

I think this guy is a lot of maybes-too many.

But he does have some intriguing skill sets-and he can play third or short which makes him particularly interesting for the Orioles who have nothing at either position in the minors. But I wouldn't risk even a Penn or Olson.John Maine keeps coming back at me in nightmares.

I mite throw in a Hoey or McCrory as part of the Costanzo/Cormier thing if I'm feeling particularly generous...

The only thing you would get for that package is a good laugh.
